The Start Of A New Year

Well it’s that time of year again when everyone is making resolutions and changes, and we here at Pool City can help with your needs. Well, as long as it has to do with a pool, hot tub, and of course fireplaces! With the start of a new year, some of you may be thinking about adding to your home or making changes and updates. If your new start includes adding in that back yard oasis or updating a fireplace, we are here to guide you through those projects. We can also put in a new fireplace if you don’t have one in your home. There is nothing better than sitting in your family room with a nice cup of coffee in front of a beautiful fireplace, that also keeps your home warm and is efficient. I mean what else could you ask for starting off the year? As most people know by now vent free gas logs are the way to go. Not only are the more efficient then your standard fireplace they are also very affordable. We carry brands such as Monessen and White Mountain, all made right here in the USA, so unlike the big box stores our logs can be serviced and repaired when needed. In regards to maintance, we recommend that you have your logs cleaned once a year…that’s it. Of course the one thing that does need to be said with that is that you can not throw items into the fire like you would a standard fireplace (just and fyi- yes people have done this). Converting Your Fireplace from wood-burning to Gas

Having a fireplace is one of the simple joys in life for many homeowners. Do you know what isn’t one of those joys? Cleaning up a wood-burning fireplace. Don’t get me wrong there are a lot of benefits to a wood-burning fireplace but for many homeowners there are many draw backs. You can convert to a gas fireplace, and this will save you a lot of time and cleaning. So you might ask, why gas? There are a ton of perks to converting your fireplace to gas! The main perk is saving you money. Either natural gas or propane can be easier to budget than wood. Gas is also much cleaner for the environment and even for your home. A gas fireplace emits little to no smoke into your home or out a vent or chimney, and of course it is much more efficient. It can be difficult to choose what you want and the differences with the choices. So lets make it a little easier for you. There are 2 types of gas options and also 2 types of fireplaces or inserts. Natural gas is usually found to be cheaper than the alternative of liquid propane. This is because it can be billed on a month rate based on usage.

As for the logs or fireplace inserts we would first recommend doing your research, There isn’t a one-size fits all approach to a gas fireplace. There are a few things to consider. For example do you want vented or vent free logs or do you simply want a gas fireplace insert? Second, is inspecting your chimney. This should be completed by a professional. If you have kept up your maintenance this should be a fairly quick process. The next important things is safety, when converting or making any changes this should be at the top of your list. This goes back into a gas fireplace being more energy efficient and also much safer to use.

The next thing to consider is pricing, while it is much easier to have a professional install the new system, there are some homeowners who like to handle the project themselves. This is ok to do as long as you have completed all of your research. When thinking about completing the project, you might ask yourself how much is it to convert my wood-burning fireplace? That is a great question, it does have several factors including: The type of fireplace you want, Any repairs to your current fireplace ( if you have one), What gas products you need or want, and Prices of contractors and professionals in your area
